Ian served as a Member of Parliament from 2001 to 2024, contributing significantly to Select and Legislative Committees that shaped national policy and regulatory frameworks. He led major international parliamentary groups, including the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and delegations to the Council of Europe, and served as Vice President of the International Steering Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, strengthening democratic cooperation across member states.
His parliamentary work was characterised by deep engagement with industry, regulatory bodies and global partners. Ian has worked closely with government departments, statutory agencies, NGOs and leading private sector organisations on issues ranging from energy security and digital infrastructure to financial services and advanced manufacturing.
