Elmar Brok was a member of the European Parliament from 1980 – June 2019. In Sept. 2019 he was appointed as special advisor to European Commission President Jean Claude Juncker on relations with Ukraine.
Most recently he was Chairman of the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee (until 2017), member of the European Parliament’s Brexit Steering Group and member of the Constitutional Affairs Committee.
He was EPP representative at the European Parliament Intergovernmental Conferences on the Treaty of Lisbon, EU Constitutional Treaty (2003/2004), Treaty of Nice (2000), Treaty of Amsterdam (1996/97) and on the Council’s Reflection Group preparing the Maastricht Treaty.
He was co-chair of the Transatlantic Legislators´ Dialogue (TLD) of the European Parliament and the US Congress since 1999 and was Co-Chairman of the Trans-Atlantic Policy Network (TPN).
He has also held the titles: Chairman of the CDU Federal Committee on European Policy; Chairman of the board of the European Endowment for Democracy (EED); President of the European Union of Christian Democratic Workers (EUCDW).
He is a Member of the CDU Federal Board in Germany; Member of the Executive National Council of the CDU NRW and Member of the party executive of the European Peoples Party.
